Community Energy Advice Tea Party Helps Locals Reduce Energy Bills at Fun and Informative Event
Sustainable Warminster held its first Energy Advice Tea Party on 26 October, aimed to help local people reduce energy costs, improve home energy efficiency, and learn sustainable energy-saving tips. The event offered personalised consultations with experts, interactive demonstrations, a fun bicycle generator racing competition, kids crafting and a lively tombola with energy-saving-related prizes. Morrisons, Waitrose and the Coop kindly donated refreshments.
Visitors had the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with energy advisors who provided free, tailored advice on everything from understanding energy bills and switching suppliers to home insulation tips and grant eligibility for more energy-efficient upgrades. Stalls included the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Warminster Area Health and Wellbeing Forum, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, National Energy Action – a fuel poverty charity, Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy, Cranborne Chase National Landscape Dark Sky Reserve – advice for reducing light pollution and improved lighting, Wessex Water Community Outreach and advice offered by trained Sustainable Warminster members.
Chair of Sustainable Warminster Julia Tuff said, “This event really combined fun and practicality – we want people to feel more empowered and well-informed when it comes to managing their energy use and bills at home. “
Sustainable Warminster thanks everyone who contributed to the event, including Warminster School for creating a quiz, and Mayor Stacie Allensby for attending and officially opening the event.
We’re also grateful for the support of Warm & Well Wiltshire and the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE). This initiative was also supported through generous grant funding from the Warminster Town Council and the Futureproof Local Energy Advice Project. The next Energy Advice Tea Party will be on 23 November, 2-4pm at Warminster Civic Centre.
