Toad Patrol Garden Party
Despite inclement weather on a Friday evening in June, 25 keen members of Smallbrook Toad Patrol (who are an offshoot of Sustainable Warminster) attended a fabulous garden party, writes member Clare Hancock.
The fun event was held in a members stunning garden which backs onto the beautiful River Wylye. Luckily there was a gazebo to shelter the delicious shared supper from the rain, and where folks could keep dry. There was plenty of tree cover too.
Thanks to a grant from the Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy Fund each patroller was given a new high-viz vest for their safety when out on toad patrol. Sadly many cars speed along Smallbrook Road when the group are out saving precious amphibians.
Throughout the summer the volunteers will continue to rescue and record amphibians on Smallbrook Road, right up until hibernation in October. Since May the patrollers have rescued 204 live amphibians and found many killed by cars.
